Catania is an old port city on the Sicilian eastern coast. The town is situated at the foot of Mt. Etna, an active volcano whose peek may be easily reached. The large central square, piazza del Duomo, is characterized by the picturesque statue of the Elephant fountain and the baroque Cathedral.

In the south-west corner of the square you may find “la Pescheria”, the fish market, a theatre of voices and colours as an exhibition of Sicilian traditions.

Catania is the ideal starting point to discover eastern Sicily: the Cyclops island, Taormina and Naxos, Val di Noto and its baroque buildings, Syracuse and its Greek theatre.
